Contractor's who perform work around lead based paint have increased liability risks including pollution and legal fines. The standard General Liability policy excludes pollution coverage and also risks related to lead based paint.

Lincoln General/Arrowhead discontinue their Specialty Contractors General Liability Program
January 1st, 2008

 

Lincoln General Insurance Company and Arrowhead General Insurance Agency, Inc. have jointly decided to discontinue the Specialty Contractors General Liability Program.

While this decision does not modify or reduce the specific coverage that you purchased with your existing policy, it does, however, eliminate the possibility of renewing your General Liability insurance through Lincoln General.


While it is always unfortunate to be forced into change, rest assured that Skyles Insurance Agency has access to many alternative A-rated insurance companies. License Bond Increase
January 1st, 2007

 

Contractors license bonds increase to $12,500. Unlike three years earlier when license bonds were raised to $10,000, Bonds of Qualifying Individual were raised this time as well, also to $12,500. CSIA bonds with Surety Company of the Pacific are automatically raised to the new amount at no charge.

Roofing (C-39) Requirements
January 1st, 2007

 

All licenses with a Roofing (C-39) classification are required to have a valid Certification of Workers' Compensation Insurance regardless of whether or not they have employees.

Contractors License Bond Increase
June 1st, 2007

 

Pursuant to legislation passed in 2003, the required amount of a contractor's bond will increase from $10,000 to $12,500 on January 1, 2007. Under the same legislation, the bond amount for bonds of qualifying individual will increase from $7,500 to $12,500.

Governor Schwarzenegger Signs AB 881

Governer Schwarzenegger signs AB 881, requiring all licenses with a Roofing (C-39) classification to have a valid Certification of Workers' Compensation Insurance regardless of whether or not they have employees. The new law comes into effect 1/1/2007.

Deadline for employees of Electrical (C-10) contractors to take and pass the general electrician and fire/life safety technician exam.

New Home Improvement Contract Requirements Take Effect
January 1st, 2006

 

New home improvement contract requirements take effect. The changes are designed to make contracts more informative to consumers, and easier for both the contractor and consumer to understand. Please see the CSLB website for further details.

New Contracts Take Effect
January 1st, 2006

 

New service and repair contract provisions take effect. When the contract amount is $750 or less and the buyer initiates contact, the consumer's right to cancel ends when work begins.

CSLB No Longer Offers HIC
January 1st, 2004

 

The CSLB's Home Improvement Certification (HIC) Program and its requirements ends pursuant to the legislation that created it. Therefore, the CSLB no longer offers the certification, and contractors do not need it to enter into home improvement contracts.

License Bond Raised
January 1st, 2004

 

Contractors License Bonds are raised to $10,000. Bonds of Qualifying Individual remain at $7,500.
